Enchanted Christmas

Interior designer Laura returns to Utah to spearhead the renovation of an old hotel in time for the annual Christmas Eve show run by Ricardo, her ex-boyfriend and dance partner. When Laura steps in to dance in the finale with Ricardo, she is pulled between her job, her family, and her reawakened feelings for Ricardo.

Our Two Cents:
You know we love the dancing movies! The chemistry in this movie better be good because it stars real life husband and wife Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega. Of course it's predictable, but aren't they all?

A December Bride

Layla is dreading the Christmastime wedding of her cousin who’s marrying Layla’s ex-fiancé. Although Seth is the one responsible for introducing the bride and groom, she begrudgingly accepts his offer to be her date as she’s out of options. Things get more complicated when Seth's association and reference get her a dream career opportunity she couldn't achieve on her own. Helping her save face with the bridal couple and guests, Seth begins to brag about their relationship and really put on a show as a loving and devoted boyfriend. Layla really appreciates his efforts until Seth gets carried away at the reception and announces they’re engaged. Because the fake engagement benefits both of them--for her it creates a dream career opportunity, and him, getting his house decorated to impress his boss, they decide to keep up the act. But as Christmas gets closer and the need for the fake relationship comes to an end, both start to wonder if it really is an act!

Our Two Cents:
This is our biggest complaint. If you are going to cast an actor with a perfectly lovely Australian accent that could have totally worked in the story, let him use it!

Now that we got that off our chest, we have to say we don't have any real complaints about this one. In fact there were a few things we especially loved, like the fact that her brother saw through their lies right away. Why doesn't anyone ever figure it out in these movies?

The Spirit of Christmas

Attorney Kate Jordan is sent to broker the sale of Hollygrove Inn, but she is told that her appraiser has left because of a ghost. Sure enough, it's not long before she meets Daniel Forsythe...a man who mysteriously died 95 years ago. The two strike a deal if she can help him discover the truth behind his death and why he is cursed to return to the inn for Christmas each year, he will leave and allow Kate to finish her job. As they work together, Kate can t help but fall for this dashing Christmas spirit, and a romance develops that will alter the course of both their lives.

Our Two Cents:
A little more of a drama, but it doesn't take it's self too seriously. It still has some comedic moments. too Overall this was a pretty good movie. We like this one especially because it's a bit different from the typical Christmas movies.

Last Chance for Christmas

When Prancer injures his hoof, Santa's stable hand John must find a fill in to ensure Christmas deliveries go off without a hitch. His mission gets complicated when he discovers that Frankie, the perfect substitute reindeer, belongs to a precocious 8-year-old girl and her mother Annie. As he races to get Frankie up to the North Pole, he realizes that he's actually falling in love with Annie and has to find a way to win her over and save Christmas at the same time.

Our Two Cents:
Usually movies with Santa and the North Pole and elves are… well, we don’t typically like them. Santa and Mrs. Claus usually get under our skin. There are exceptions to it, and this is definitely one of those exceptions. Mrs. Claus was sharp and sassy, and we kinda loved her!

We like pretty much all of Hilarie Burton’s Christmas movies. The girl that plays her daughter was adorably precocious. And John’s awkwardness was pretty adorable too. Flowers and chocolates…

The Christmas Parade

Hailee Anderson, the famous talk show host, is preparing for the holiday season by working; she's planning her very important TV show, her Christmas special. Already a scrooge, Hailee is even more miserable when she finds out on live TV that her real-estate fiancée Jason is cheating on her! To clear her head, she goes on a drive and ends up in Carver Bend, Connecticut, and unfortunately crashes through a local judge's fence. When is sentenced to community service, witness and rescuer Logan recommends she work with him at the local art center where they are building a float to win the contest at the annual Christmas Parade. While Hailee bonds with the locals, the art center kids, and grows closer to Logan, she begins to learn the magic and joy of Christmas.

Our Two Cents:
Shamelessly stealing Winona Ryder’s line from Reality Bites: this movie is so cheesy you can’t watch it without crackers. Full of christmas cliches including the Scroogy saboteur, a classic Grinch transformation, and sappy romance, it’s a perfect candidate for a Christmas guilty pleasure.

Christmas at Cartwright's

With the holiday season at hand, single mom Nicky Talbot is unemployed and struggling to afford a nice Christmas with her 8-year-old daughter. Hearing that Cartwright’s Department Store is hiring temporary holiday help, Nicky rushes in to apply, but is rejected by Senior VP Fiona Aldrich, who considers Nicky a threat to the relationship she hopes to have with Bill, a charming and handsome store manager. In a whimsical turn of events, Harry Osbourne, claiming to be a consultant from corporate headquarters, encourages Nicky to dress up and begin working as Cartwright’s store Santa Claus. With the magical help of Harry, Nicky keeps the job, but nobody knows Cartwright’s Santa Claus is a woman. Will she be able to keep her job if her secret gets out?

Our Two Cents:
Our only real complaint with this one, because it was pretty darn cute, is that we wished the main character had a little more backbone and didn't wilt under pressure from Fiona (who obviously has a vendetta against her) quite so easily. But otherwise it was a fun movie, and we recommend it!

Christmas in the City

With the threat of having to close her father's candy store, Wendy and her six-year-old daughter Grace travel to the big city in hopes of making extra holiday cash to save the store.

Her best friend Angie is able to get Wendy's foot in the door at Wolman's Department Store, where she has her day job. Run by its founder Harry Wolman and Harry's nephew Tom Wolman, Wolman's is an old fashioned business that runs on family values, treating staff truly like members of their family. Much of the Wolman family's values are under the gun as it is not doing well financially.

Its Board of Directors has hired a retail consultant, Teanna Musk, for the Christmas season to turn the store's financial fortunes around. Nicknamed Cruella by the store's staff, Teanna has no sentiment toward traditional Christmas values, only looking at the bottom line. Beyond being a directive by the Board, Tom feels like he has to abide by Teanna's decisions because she is also holding the purse strings for a much needed investor. What Tom is unaware of is that Teanna has ulterior motives, one of those motives being to get Tom as her man. As such, she has to get rid of who Tom seems to have eyes for, namely Wendy. But as much as Wendy likes Tom, she isn't sure if she is willing to give up her Quinton life for the prospect of romance.

Our Two Cents:
We've seen the male lead in this movie before. Remember Holiday High School Reunion? If your answer is no, count yourself lucky. Probably one of the worst Christmas movies we've seen. This movie is made by the same people and isn't much better. A little better, but not much.

There are so many things we could say that are wrong with this, and they are all glaring, but that would take a lot of paragraphs, so instead we'll say what we liked. There's a cute scene with Tom and Wendy singing at the piano.

Also the little boy that is in the daycare center for employee children with Grace is super cute, though his story is terribly sad. His mom isn't an employee. She just likes to shop. A lot. She leaves him there because he gets in the way of her shopping. He's there everyday. We want somebody else to adopt him.

Note: Pay attention when Wendy and Angie are each watching a movie. Can you figure out what it is?

Let It Snow

When Falcon Resorts acquires family-owned Snow Valley Lodge from retiring owners Karla (Gabrielle Rose) and Paul (Dan Willmott), driven executive Stephanie Beck (Candace Cameron Bure) must spend the week before Christmas in Maine preparing a proposal on the property's renovations. Determined to impress Falcon's president, her detached father Ted (Alan Thicke), Stephanie reluctantly departs her warm Arizona home to immerse herself in the lodge's property and decide how to change it to fit the hip, young Falcon brand. While preparing to rebuild the Snow Valley Lodge from the ground up, Stephanie butts heads with her property guide, Brady Lewis (Jesse Hutch), Karla and Paul's son, who has decided to leave his family's business over creative differences with his dad.
A self-defined Grinch, Stephanie begins her stay at Snow Valley Lodge immune to Christmas sentiment. But as the lodge's festive traditions provide the Christmas Stephanie never had growing up with her distant father, Stephanie finds herself enjoying every minute. To complicate her professional duties even further, the combative feelings she felt toward Brady turn into romantic ones. With Stephanie's newfound Christmas spirit and unexpected holiday romance, she begins to question Falcon's overhaul. As her Christmas Eve deadline approaches, she's faced with a decision: should she transform the lodge into a new winter hot spot or embrace tradition and let it snow?

Our Two Cents:
Besides being mildly offended/disappointed with their not-quite-how-we-do-it Feast of the Seven Fishes, we found this one pleasantly enjoyable. And if you feel tempted to mimick the Swedish tradition on the night of the Feast of St. Thomas to dream of your future spouse, we won't judge.

Holidaze

Melody, a high powered corporate workaholic for a retail conglomerate, is happy to spend the holidays jet-setting with her girlfriends. However, she's in for an unpleasant surprise when her boss sends her to her sleepy hometown to convince the reluctant townspeople to allow them to build a new discount store. Now, forced to reconnect with her family and her childhood sweetheart Carter, her task is not so simple, as all are vehemently opposed to everything Melody's company stands for. Desperate to get out of town and back to her real life, Melody takes a spill and wakes up in an alternate universe where she never left home and is married to Carter! Once determined to leave her small town life behind, Melody must make sense of her new life and decide if you truly can go home again.

Our Two Cents:
Another silver screen rip off--this one is like The Family Man. There are a few things about this movie that leave us shaking our heads, inwardly saying "really?" to the TV. But it has some really good moments too. We like it for the good moments, and it's just a teensy bit a guilty pleasure for the bad ones.

Fir Crazy

Busy career woman Elise MacReynolds (Sarah Lancaster) has no time or desire to take part in Christmas festivities. However, a few twists of fate land Elise in the middle of her worst nightmare: unemployed, newly single, and running her family's Christmas tree lot for the dreaded holiday season. As the de facto representative of her family's business, Elise must navigate a contentious relationship with the lot's new landlord, Gary Dixon (Colin Mochrie), who thinks the MacReynolds' lot is hurting his business and wants them gone...fast. But, things are looking a little brighter as the newly single Elise has a budding relationship with Darren (Eric Johnson), one of her customers.
It doesn't take long for Elise to begin to embrace the Christmas spirit. But when her landlord discovers a way to shut down the lot right before Christmas, Elise must use her newly found holiday spirit, her business savvy, and help from her new friends. Will she pull off a Christmas miracle?

Our Two Cents:
While we liked this one, for some reason though, it's not as memorable for us. It's pretty standard fare for a TV Christmas movie. The most memorable thing about this movie might just be its invention of the word "mistletotally," which was both awkward and awesome.

Note: This is also known as  Oh Christmas Tree.

Window Wonderland

It's no holds barred when two Manhattan department store employees vie for the same job during the busy Christmas season. Sloan Van Doren is a driven young woman determined to become the next window dresser at McGuire's department store and to uphold a 95-year-old artistic holiday tradition. Serious and professional, she's the polar opposite of the happy-go-lucky Jake Dooley, who also wants the job. When Mr. Fitch, the head of advertising and promotion, gives them a challenge, the competition is on: each will create a series of seasonal storefront windows twice a week until Christmas. The creator of whichever window display gets the most attention from passersby will get the job.

As they go through their paces, with Jake's obvious talent grabbing the public's attention, a silent but mutual attraction develops between the pair, hampered by the contest and the presence of Kenneth, Sloan's blueblood boyfriend, who can't understand the importance Sloan is placing on this job. Supporting the efforts of the window dressers are McGuire's veteran window washer Mac (Terence Kelly) and brassy bathroom attendant Rita who have eyes for each other but haven't done anything about it yet. Love is in the air at McGuire's, but things aren't exactly what they seem. Who will win in this love triangle?
(Summary from IMDB)

Our Two Cents:
More like Window Wonderful! Cute, funny, and full of surprises and great banter between lead characters. It's just good. Don't miss this one because it's not available on DVD.

Catch a Christmas Star

Nikki Crandon (Shannon Elizabeth) is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. Whether she's singing the National Anthem or promoting her latest album, everyone knows who she is—none more so than New Jersey high school basketball coach and widower Chris Mitchell (Steve Byers), who was Nikki's first love in high school. When Chris's 10-year-old daughter Sophie (Julia Lalonde) finds out her dad still has feelings for the singer, she takes matters into her own hands. With her 8-year-old brother Jackson (Kyle Breitkopf) in tow, Sophie succeeds in reuniting the two. But when a misunderstanding and the growing glare of the public spotlight threaten Chris and Nikki's happiness, one can only wonder: will fame get in the way of a Merry Christmas?

Our Two Cents:
Catch a Falling Star, in a word, is MEH. It's not great, and it's not really bad. Well, it's kind of really bad. The plot doesn't make too much sense. She's a huge superstar. Fans wait in line all day just to meet her for a few moments and get an autograph. She fills a huge Madison Square Garden-size stadium for a concert featuring CHRISTMAS SONGS (that concert itself is a bit far fetched). So how would a romance with someone who is a highly attractive, family man, works for a high school and is incredibly nice guy hurt her reputation? I don't get it. And the ending! Yikes. Yeah, it's not really that good, but you know we watch it every year anyway!

All About Christmas Eve

After pulling off a risky but fabulous party, party-planner Evelyn Wright (Haylie Duff) celebrates at her best friend's New York City bar and club. A friendly conversation with a handsome stranger (Chris Carmack) leads her down a path that will change her life.
As a reward for her job well done, she is awarded a big last minute client--none other than last night's handsome stranger. Unfortunately this new client's party is scheduled for Christmas Eve in Los Angeles, meaning Eve will have to cancel her holiday plans with her boyfriend Darren (Stephen Colletti).

The morning of her trip, Eve misses her alarm and has to rush to LaGuardia Airport in order to make her flight. The movie splits showing two story lines, one where Eve makes her flight to Los Angeles, and the other where she misses it.

As her two stories go into very different directions, will we find that if some thing is meant to be, it will find a way to be?

Our Two Cents:
There are many movies that while watching them, Marisa and I feel like if the writers had just consulted us, the movie could have been really good, rather than just ok. This is one of those movies. A holiday version of Sliding Doors? So much potential! This movie didn't quite live up to it, but you know we'll watch it every year anyway!

Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade

Chicago native Emily Jones (Autumn Reeser) loves her city, and has dedicated her career to coordinating its beloved Thanksgiving Day parade every year. This year, Emily is hoping for a memorable holiday and anticipating a long-awaited proposal from her long-distance boyfriend Brian (Ben Cotton). Then, the parade director hires a wealthy development consultant, Henry Williams (Antonio Cupo), to analyze the finances of the parade and increase profits.
Immediately writing Henry off as a privileged playboy, Emily worries he will ruin the joyful spirit of the parade, not knowing how much it means to the city like she does. As the two are forced to work together to pull off a successful production, Emily is determined to show Henry she’s in charge. But when Emily suffers a sudden setback, she starts to rely on Henry to help her through it, and suddenly realizes she might be falling for him. As Thanksgiving draws nearer, can Emily confess her true feelings and end the feud while still putting on the parade of her dreams?

Our Two Cents:
There is something about Emily's personality that isn't as likable as she should be, but that being said, this movie isn't bad. In fact, it is a bit cute, we gotta admit.

A Christmas Kiss

Wendy Walton is the best designer in Boston... but no one knows it yet. Hoping to kick-start her career, Wendy has left work with the local theatre to take a job as an assistant to Priscilla Hall, the most prestigious designer in the city. Ms. Hall works Wendy around the clock, which is how Wendy finds herself trapped in an elevator late one night with an incredibly handsome stranger. Wendy and the mystery man share an impulsive, romantic, life-changing kiss before the doors open and Wendy runs out, leaving him behind. The next day at work, Wendy answers the door to find the handsome gentleman standing in front of her.

Turns out he's Adam Hughes, a wealthy philanthropist--and Ms. Hall's long distance boyfriend. He doesn't recognize Wendy, which makes things all the more awkward for her when Ms. Hall assigns her to decorate his house for a big party at Christmas. As the holidays approach and Wendy and Adam spend more and more time together, Wendy realizes she's falling in love. Should she risk everything she's worked for and tell Adam the truth about their moment on the elevator before he proposes to Ms. Hall? And will Adam ever open his eyes and realize that the one true love of his life is right in front of him? A Christmas romance about how one kiss can change everything.

Our Two Cents:
Mixed feelings with this one. Mostly, we like it. The main character is bubbly and awkward in a likeable way. The male lead, went back a forth a little on liking him. Eventually, he got our approval but there were moments where it was a little touch and go. This is mostly because we can't help wonder what in the world he's doing dating a person like Priscilla at all! And, there's something just a little doofy about him... In the end, you are rooting for them and (spoiler alert...) your team wins.

Desperately Seeking Santa

Jennifer is a young, ambitious executive running promotions at a failing Boston mall. In hopes to save her beloved mall, and maybe position herself for a promotion, she comes up with a genius promotional gimmick: hold a "Hunky Santa" contest to replace the old Mall Santa. David, a local man trying to save his family's pizzeria, ultimately wins the contest and sparks fly between him and Jennifer. However, complications ensue when it comes to light that the company Jennifer works for is the same one trying to run David's family out of business.

Our Two Cents:
Now, (this might not be the best way to start this but, need to get this off my chest) we understand the draw that Sexy Santa at a mall would have, but seriously, no regular Santa too? Anyway, it takes a little time to warm up to Jennifer, before she starts to soften, but once that begins to happen, this movie starts to pull you in. Call Me Mrs. Miracle

No one celebrates the holidays like Emily Merkle (Doris Roberts)–or Mrs. Miracle as she is known by some – who is back to ensure that this Christmas is the most magical and meaningful of all. When Mrs. Miracle appears as a seasonal employee in the toy department at the financially troubled Finley’s Department Store, neither the store’s owners, nor the customers, have any idea of the events that are about to unfold. Just when it seemed Christmas might not come at all this year, Finley’s favorite employee proves they don’t call her Mrs. Miracle for nothing!

Our Two Cents:
It's hard to not have high expectations for this one after the first Mrs. Miracle, which is in our top 10. It didn't quite live up to those expectations, but that doesn't mean that this is a bad movie. Mrs. Miracle and her audacious meddling matchmaking is right as we remembered it, and SHE certainly does not disappoint. And as far as Christmas movies go, it's about average. So you won't be blown away, but I don't think you'll regret watching it either.

A Christmas Proposal

Two estranged high school sweethearts, Rick and Lisa find each other at odds, when Ricks returns to his hometown to present an opportunity to turn their quaint little town into a bustling ski resort. Lisa, along with Rick's mother, childhood best friend and the townsfolk, aren't too keen on the idea. A lot is riding on this ski lodge for Rick. Not only for his career, but his boss also happens to be the father of Reagan, his girlfriend and coworker, and Rick wants his blessing to propose to her.
The ski lodge isn't the only idea that Rick's friends and family aren't warming to. No one seems to like Reagan either and they can see that there is still something there between Rick and Lisa. That's when the devious plots begin to keep Rick in town and away from Reagan.
Will the time around each other remind Rick of what he had with Lisa all those years ago? And will Rick remember his small town roots and help thwart the ski lodge plans?

Our Two Cents:
This movie is a couple of common Christmas plots all rolled into one movie. The story is a bit ridiculous--you might find yourself expressing cynical comments aloud as the movie progresses. There are several moments that you can tell they didn't quite know how to get from plot point A to plot point B so they just fill it with nonsense and hope you don't notice. We notice. There's a knock-off McDreamy, and (maybe this next one shouldn't matter but it does) the wardrobes in this movie are hideous. I mean, it's really bad--Lisa's most of all. Despite this, for some unknown reason, we like it. We can't explain it.

Moonlight & Mistletoe

It’s always Christmas in Santaville! But now, tiny Chester, Vermont’s year-round yuletide attraction is losing its widespread appeal. On the verge of bankruptcy, the resident St. Nick is hoping for a Christmas miracle to keep his dream from being bulldozed into another mini mall. Nick Crosby (Tom Arnold) is the owner of Santaville and head Santa. One day he is smiling with visitors, the next, he is juggling a cascading stack of bills, unable to pay the rent and blissfully thinking a solution will magically appear. When his daughter – and onetime Number One elf, Holly (Candace Cameron Bure), returns home, she is shocked to learn of her father’s situation. Holly recruits Peter, Nick’s employee and master wood craftsman, to devise a solution to the money woes.

Our Two Cents:
We started watching this one night and I couldn't take the bad acting and had to turn it off. Plus, Tom Arnold isn't our favorite. But we didn't delete it. So one night when this movie was the only unwatched movie left on our TiVo, we decided to give it another try. Once you get past the beginning scene with the kids, and get to present time, it gets better, not great, but better.

We said Christmas Under Wraps is Candace's best yet, this one is probably her worst.

His & Her Christmas

Tom Lane is the star columnist for the media conglomerate owned San Francisco Sun newspaper. The company is thinking about increasing Tom's exposure by producing a new television show around him. Liz Madison is the advice columnist for the little read community newspaper, the Marin County Voice, which is a throwback to gentler times. Besides their journalistic occupations, one other similar aspect between Tom and Liz is that they are both currently single, with their friends and family doing whatever they can to find that special someone for their personal life. On November 2, the staff at the Voice learn that the Sun ownership has bought their newspaper, with the probable goal of folding it into the operations of the Sun. If this move does happen, the staff at the Voice will lose their jobs.

To fight back, Liz decides to change her column to an editorial espousing the meaning of Christmas and the newspaper to the community. Because of the feisty and entertaining stance of Liz's new column, the circulation of the Voice increases so much so that the owner has second thoughts about folding it, which in turn would put Tom's new television show in jeopardy. To protect his career advancement, Tom decides to write a counterpoint column to Liz's, his about instilling some practicality into Christmas. The competing columns become a personal battle for the two columnists. But as Tom and Liz spew their mutual loathing for each other, their respective friends try to convince them of the old adage that there is a fine line between love and hate.

Our Two Cents:
We used to really like this one. But Christmas movies have gotten so very very very much better since 2005 and in watching it recently, it sadly paled in comparison to the newer better movies.
