Four Christmases and a Wedding

When event planner Chloe is hired to plan the local Christmas Festival, she is beyond thrilled to embrace the challenge. Professionally, everything is going great, but much to the dismay of her mother, Chloe confesses she has given up on ever finding Mr. Right. That all changes the night of the opening of the festival when she meets Evan. The two begin a whirlwind romance, but as Christmas Day nears, Chloe learns that Evan is being transferred overseas for work. What follows is three more Christmases where Chloe and Evan cross paths at the annual festival, but each year something, or someone, stands in the way of true love. Will a touch of Santa's magic on their fourth Christmas Eve finally bring them together?
Our Two Cents:
Ugh. We hate writing negative reviews, but we gotta be honest... There wasn't much we liked about this. Poorly written. Poorly acted. No chemistry. Lots of large sheets of cotton polyester blankets laid down over fake bushes and sidewalks that we are supposed to believe is snow. We say skip it.

Marry Me at Christmas

Organizing a Christmas wedding is a true treat for bridal boutique owner Madeline Krug. She loves the challenge of finding the perfect dress for the bride and orchestrating an exquisite event. What Madeline didn’t expect was to be swept off her feet by the bride’s gorgeous brother, movie star Jonny Blaze. Jonny came to the quirky town of Fool’s Gold to support his sister — not to fall in love. Yet Madeline is the most extraordinary woman he’s ever met. Planning the perfect wedding leads to candlelit dinners and strolls through snow-covered streets. Madeline finds the real Jonny even more captivating than her celebrity crush. Will the action star be brave enough to take on the role of a lifetime?

Our Two Cents:
So our biggest problem with this movie was hair. Her hair and the fake curls (thankfully at the end, she wore it straight and it suited her much better), and his fake Zach Morris blonde hair. You might think those are petty complaints. We agree. Our conclusion: a movie where the biggest complaint is about the hair, can't be all that bad! Marry Me at Christmas is definitely one that you don't want to miss!

Christmas List

Isobel Gray (Witt) plans a storybook Christmas with her boyfriend, including a snow-covered cottage in the Northwest, and a carefully composed bucket list of classic holiday traditions. But when the boyfriend goes AWOL, the list proves challenging and a tempting new romance turns her life upside down. Will Isobel have a White Christmas ending under the mistletoe?"

Our Two Cents:
The Christmas Movie Amateur will mention Melissa Joan Hart as a repeat offender for these movies. She's actually not even much of a contender. Candace Cameron Bure (6 movies), Lacey Chabert (6 movies) and even Haylie Duff (5 movies) are some obvious candidates for the Queen of TV Christmas Movies. This movie stars Alicia Witt (5 movies) and Gabriel Hogan (6 movies!). The black horses in the competition for the crowns of King and Queen! (Ironically, this is their second movie together. Their first was Christmas at Cartwright's.)

The problem with that is, we are beginning to find her annoying. She kind of jumped the shark in this one. Her typical doe-eyed, childish innocence was a bit too much to take in this movie. We may have liked it better with a different actress. The movie itself wasn't bad. Gabriel Hogan tends to play the same buttoned-up nice guy (you know, the kind that moms want(ed) their daughters to date and marry) and we were hoping he'd be a little more loose in this one. It's all perfectly encapsulated in his hairstyle. We were hoping for a little more dishevelment. Nope, same hairstyle. BUT his character's personality was much more loose and easy going so, we'll take it.

So, to sum up, if Alicia Witt doesn't bother you, you'll probably like it.

Christmas in Homestead

One of the most famous actresses in the world heads to the Christmas-obsessed town of Homestead, Iowa, to shoot a holiday-themed movie. She is thrown for a loop when a romance brews between her and local inn keeper and single dad, Matt. As she gets a taste of small-town life, she discovers the true meaning of Christmas.

Our Two Cents:
We didn't hear anything about this movie and weren't sure what to expect. Frankly the title made us a little concerned it was going to be really sappy. But within the first minute, we knew this was going to be a keeper. Mayor Matt won us over from the get go and his daughter Sophie tops the list of child characters in all these movies. Full of sass and personality.

Plus it has a great side story with his sister. So, basically, we loved it. A little Notting Hill, a lot Christmas.

Broadcasting Christmas

When her on-air partner decides to depart America’s favorite morning show, Veronika Daniels announces that she will be choosing her new co-host from a handful of candidates that includes Charlie Fisher, a local NY newscaster who is the son of a broadcasting legend. However, when Emily Morgan, a human interest reporter for the local Connecticut station, makes an impassioned on-air plea to be considered for the job, the game changes for everyone as video of Emily’s declaration goes viral and the network brass decide to put her in the running. Veronika delights in the healthy competition she sees brewing, and encourages the candidates to bring their A game in the segments and stories they do between now and the Christmas Day Telethon, when she will announce her choice. As the competition narrows, and it becomes clear that either Charlie or Emily are going to get the job, they begin to rediscover a spark between them that started long ago.

Our Two Cents:
While Dean Cain is notorious for bad Christmas movies, Melissa Joan Hart usually doesn't disappoint. Luckily her good vibe outweighed his bad! Cute and fun and totes predictable, this is one not too miss.

A December Bride

Layla is dreading the Christmastime wedding of her cousin who’s marrying Layla’s ex-fiancé. Although Seth is the one responsible for introducing the bride and groom, she begrudgingly accepts his offer to be her date as she’s out of options. Things get more complicated when Seth's association and reference get her a dream career opportunity she couldn't achieve on her own. Helping her save face with the bridal couple and guests, Seth begins to brag about their relationship and really put on a show as a loving and devoted boyfriend. Layla really appreciates his efforts until Seth gets carried away at the reception and announces they’re engaged. Because the fake engagement benefits both of them--for her it creates a dream career opportunity, and him, getting his house decorated to impress his boss, they decide to keep up the act. But as Christmas gets closer and the need for the fake relationship comes to an end, both start to wonder if it really is an act!

Our Two Cents:
This is our biggest complaint. If you are going to cast an actor with a perfectly lovely Australian accent that could have totally worked in the story, let him use it!

Now that we got that off our chest, we have to say we don't have any real complaints about this one. In fact there were a few things we especially loved, like the fact that her brother saw through their lies right away. Why doesn't anyone ever figure it out in these movies?

The Mistletoe Promise

This is the story of two unlucky people who both have negative views of Christmas. Elise Donner (Jaime King) is the creator, founder, and co-owner of a travel agency known as World Bright Travel Agency. He co-owner is none other than her ex-husband, Dan (Lochlyn Munro), who switched up the Christmas presents one year and accidentally gave her a gift meant for his car show model mistress, Drew (Ashley Ross). Then there is Nick Derr (Luke Macfarlane), a divorce lawyer who is up for partner at his law firm and needs a longtime girlfriend by the end of the week in order to prove that he is a serious family man like all the other partners before him.

The two meet at a food court over their mutual hate for those treacherous Christmas carolers and create a mistletoe promise guaranteed to make him partner at his firm and give her an opportunity to get rid of the burden of her ex and his girlfriend. The promise is intended to be solely business but the spirit of the holidays and the amount of time spent pretending to be in love might just be enough to actually feel something for each other.

Our Two Cents:
So this movie was delightful enough, has everything you expect from holiday movies. As long as you realize it's one of these TV movies, (and of course, this goes for all these movies because there is always something in all of these movies that warrants a groan or a "come on" remark as you watch them), it might just end up a favorite.

A Christmas Kiss II

At a Christmastime event, Jenna shares an impromptu, unforgettable kiss with the dashing and wealthy, Cooper Montgomery. Unaware of his intentions and fearful of getting hurt in another relationship, Jenna vows to resist his charms, but begins to realize his affection is real as the two spend more time together.

Our Two Cents:
This is a sequel of sorts to A Christmas Kiss where two strangers share a passionate kiss when their elevators seems like it's going to plummet to the bottom floor of the high rise.

So, this movie... We don't even know what to say about this one. It's not bad, but it is bad. The elevator kiss in this one is a little more forced as far writing into the story. Maybe they didn't want to repeat the same circumstances where their lives seemed to be in jeopardy, but it would have been better if they had. After you get over that, it's just your typical guilty pleasure--shameless product placement included.

(Quick tangent, you may have noticed the trend, especially but not limited to Hallmark, for shameless product placements. Usually they're for Walmart, Folgers and Kay Jewelers. I'd say see if you can find it in this one, but if you miss it, it's probably because you fell asleep. It's none too subtle.)

Note: Also known as Another Christmas Kiss.

Christmas on the Bayou

Emotionally scarred by a failed marriage, Katherine has plunged into her successful career as a NYC marketing executive, but her workaholic ways are taking a toll on her 8 year old son, Zack. Concerned over Zack's increasing disaffection, Katherine decides they will spend Christmas in her home town in Louisiana's bayou country, where her mother, Lilly, is soon match-making with a vengeance. When Caleb, Katherine's old admirer, tries to rekindle a childhood romance and convince her to move home, Katherine is torn between the bright lights of the big city and the quiet, gentler rhythms of her Southern roots. But a small Christmas miracle, orchestrated by the mysterious Papa Noel, convinces Katherine that her heart belongs back in the bayou where she was raised.
(Summary from Lifetime)

Our Two Cents:
Many of these movies have a major motion picture counterpart, and this one is a holiday Hope Floats. This movie (and Tyler Hilton) will win you over with it's southern charm and you might just start considering making a trip to the bayou yourself.

Finding Christmas

Single mother Ryan (Tricia Helfer) has just about given up on dating after her divorce, happily accepting her young son as the most important man in her life. That all changes when Ryan's brother Owen (JT Hodges), also feeling unlucky in love after a bad breakup, swaps his home in their small North Carolina town with New York City ad man Sean (Mark Lutz). Ryan feels an instant spark with her new neighbor, but Sean, who signed up for the temporary home swap after a proposal gone wrong, is out of his comfort zone in his new rural surroundings.
On the other end of the housing exchange, aspiring musician Owen is charmed when he meets Sean's sassy assistant, Mia (Cristina Rosato), in New York City. As Owen acclimates to his swanky New York City digs with Mia's help, he begins to realize Mia might be just the right girl for him. With Christmas approaching and the home swap nearing an end, the future for both of these new relationships is up in the air. Can these temporary holiday arrangements lead to long lasting love?

Our Two Cents:
Yes, you have seen this before. Last time it was called TRADING Christmas, and the time before that it was The Holiday. Though it had a few cute moments, this movie just didn't do it for us. Copies of copies never come out as good. We say stick with the other two.

Guess Who's Coming to Christmas

Jaded rock star Dax (Drew Lachey) is found by New York paparazzi passed out in his car with a frozen holiday turkey in the passenger seat. In order to repair his tarnished image, Dax publicly agrees to grant a fan’s “Dear Santa” Christmas wish. To his dismay, his manager Jason drops Dax off in Cedar Grove, a Midwest small town, where he’s committed to spend a week and perform in a local holiday Christmas concert.

At first, Dax is horrified to be stuck in the Reverend Harding  family’s home with strict rules and a curfew.  In spite of himself, he soon becomes charmed by the Reverend’s wife Lynne, and very surprised contest winner and daughter Kelly (Mackenzie Porter), a sassy, unemployed book jacket writer.
Between the family’s backyard collection of llamas, quirky Christmas traditions and their overall kindness, Dax starts to appreciate what the Hardings have as a family – love, caring and an uplifting holiday spirit.

Our Two Cents:
We literally just finished watching this movie. We heard about it a while back though suggestions on Amazon, and have been watching for it to come on TV, so when it started a bit rough, we were a little worried. Christmas in the City

With the threat of having to close her father's candy store, Wendy and her six-year-old daughter Grace travel to the big city in hopes of making extra holiday cash to save the store.

Her best friend Angie is able to get Wendy's foot in the door at Wolman's Department Store, where she has her day job. Run by its founder Harry Wolman and Harry's nephew Tom Wolman, Wolman's is an old fashioned business that runs on family values, treating staff truly like members of their family. Much of the Wolman family's values are under the gun as it is not doing well financially.

Its Board of Directors has hired a retail consultant, Teanna Musk, for the Christmas season to turn the store's financial fortunes around. Nicknamed Cruella by the store's staff, Teanna has no sentiment toward traditional Christmas values, only looking at the bottom line. Beyond being a directive by the Board, Tom feels like he has to abide by Teanna's decisions because she is also holding the purse strings for a much needed investor. What Tom is unaware of is that Teanna has ulterior motives, one of those motives being to get Tom as her man. As such, she has to get rid of who Tom seems to have eyes for, namely Wendy. But as much as Wendy likes Tom, she isn't sure if she is willing to give up her Quinton life for the prospect of romance.

Our Two Cents:
We've seen the male lead in this movie before. Remember Holiday High School Reunion? If your answer is no, count yourself lucky. Probably one of the worst Christmas movies we've seen. This movie is made by the same people and isn't much better. A little better, but not much.

There are so many things we could say that are wrong with this, and they are all glaring, but that would take a lot of paragraphs, so instead we'll say what we liked. There's a cute scene with Tom and Wendy singing at the piano.

Also the little boy that is in the daycare center for employee children with Grace is super cute, though his story is terribly sad. His mom isn't an employee. She just likes to shop. A lot. She leaves him there because he gets in the way of her shopping. He's there everyday. We want somebody else to adopt him.

Note: Pay attention when Wendy and Angie are each watching a movie. Can you figure out what it is?

Dear Secret Santa

After getting news of her father's bad fall, Jennifer, moves back to the house where she grew up, reuniting her with old flames and old memories. One day, Jennifer gets a Christmas card from a secret admirer in her mailbox and becomes curious as to who sent it. The admirer knows so many personal things about her that she decides to write back. Can she solve the mystery of who is sending her the Christmas cards?

Our Two Cents:
With a good cast, some cute moments and some good music, this movie is a little reminiscent of The Lake House, but it’s not quite the same story line. It has a few twists. Can you figure out who her Secret Santa is?

Side Note: Ok, so the mystery isn't that hard to figure out. Most plot summaries give it away. So if you want to be surprised, maybe don't follow the links or watch the trailer.

Catch a Christmas Star

Nikki Crandon (Shannon Elizabeth) is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. Whether she's singing the National Anthem or promoting her latest album, everyone knows who she is—none more so than New Jersey high school basketball coach and widower Chris Mitchell (Steve Byers), who was Nikki's first love in high school. When Chris's 10-year-old daughter Sophie (Julia Lalonde) finds out her dad still has feelings for the singer, she takes matters into her own hands. With her 8-year-old brother Jackson (Kyle Breitkopf) in tow, Sophie succeeds in reuniting the two. But when a misunderstanding and the growing glare of the public spotlight threaten Chris and Nikki's happiness, one can only wonder: will fame get in the way of a Merry Christmas?

Our Two Cents:
Catch a Falling Star, in a word, is MEH. It's not great, and it's not really bad. Well, it's kind of really bad. The plot doesn't make too much sense. She's a huge superstar. Fans wait in line all day just to meet her for a few moments and get an autograph. She fills a huge Madison Square Garden-size stadium for a concert featuring CHRISTMAS SONGS (that concert itself is a bit far fetched). So how would a romance with someone who is a highly attractive, family man, works for a high school and is incredibly nice guy hurt her reputation? I don't get it. And the ending! Yikes. Yeah, it's not really that good, but you know we watch it every year anyway!

Christmas Song

Though two schools have recently merged into one, students at the newly formed Carter-Cresswell Academy have yet to blend into one harmonious body. Particularly for the award-winning choral groups of the two former schools, old rivalries die hard. Music teachers Diana Deason (Natasha Henstridge) and Ken Stoddard (Gabe Hogan) are forced to compete for a single music department position by entering dueling musical acts in a televised Christmas song competition.
The success of either group will determine the fate of the music department and will determine who will get the job as the school’s only music director. As the musical teams duke out their differences at the competition and in the school halls, sparks begin to fly between Diana and Ken--romantic and otherwise. Confused by these sentiments, Diana is forced to reevaluate her priorities and choose what is really worth fighting for.

Our Two Cents:
Another movie we didn’t finish. We got a bit farther into it than some others. The chemistry between Diane and Ken was there. But the music! It was just too awful. We're no experts, and apparently neither was anyone on the movie crew. If you have any musical snobbery, you might want to avoid this.

Angels Sing

As a child, Michael Walker wished every day could be Christmas. That is, until a tragic accident crushed his holiday spirit. Thirty years later, Michael still can't muster any joy for the holidays, despite encouragement from his playful wife and well-intentioned parents.

One day while taking a bide ride, he find a gorgeous home for sale in a beautiful neighborhood. Knowing such a home would be out of his price range he has no intention of stopping, but the man on the porch insists he looks at the house. As they talk, the man can learns the quality of Michael's character, and though the house is worth far more, he offers a price that is in Michael's budget. Before they know it, Michael and Susan move in to their new beautiful. That's when the welcoming begins. Everyday a new neighbor with a new Christmas carol along with a gift of Christmas decorations. Because in this famous Austin neighborhood, everyone decorates for Christmas, and their house is most famous for it's annual decorations. Michael, however, refuses to give in.
But when his young son faces a tragedy, and begins on the same path as Michael all those years ago, will Michael find his Christmas spirit for the sake of his son?

Our Two Cents:
We are big fans of Harry Connick Jr. (When My Heart Finds Christmas, anyone?) so we were excited to watch this one. There are lots of classic country music cameos and music (Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Kris Kristofferson and more). (The soundtrack was fabulous! I had Christmastime is Here Again stuck in my head for weeks!) But music aside, the story was really sweet, and Harry and all the cast were great. Be prepared, this one is a bit of a tear jerker.

The Mistle-tones: A Musical

Holly, blessed with an amazing singing voice, is all set to audition for the newly vacated spot in a legendary local Christmas group which was founded by her late mother years ago. Shocked and upset when the slot goes to the barely talented best friend of the group's leader, Marci, Holly sets out to create her own musical group, The Mistle-Tones. After challenging their rivals to a sing-off on Christmas Eve, Holly finds herself on a journey to the real meaning of Christmas with some new friends and a new love thrown in for good measure.

Our Two Cents:

All About Christmas Eve

After pulling off a risky but fabulous party, party-planner Evelyn Wright (Haylie Duff) celebrates at her best friend's New York City bar and club. A friendly conversation with a handsome stranger (Chris Carmack) leads her down a path that will change her life.
As a reward for her job well done, she is awarded a big last minute client--none other than last night's handsome stranger. Unfortunately this new client's party is scheduled for Christmas Eve in Los Angeles, meaning Eve will have to cancel her holiday plans with her boyfriend Darren (Stephen Colletti).

The morning of her trip, Eve misses her alarm and has to rush to LaGuardia Airport in order to make her flight. The movie splits showing two story lines, one where Eve makes her flight to Los Angeles, and the other where she misses it.

As her two stories go into very different directions, will we find that if some thing is meant to be, it will find a way to be?

Our Two Cents:
There are many movies that while watching them, Marisa and I feel like if the writers had just consulted us, the movie could have been really good, rather than just ok. This is one of those movies. A holiday version of Sliding Doors? So much potential! This movie didn't quite live up to it, but you know we'll watch it every year anyway!

That is, until charming but chronically single Aiden MacTiernan (Andrew Walker) comes along. Unbeknownst to Jessie, Aiden has bet his friends that he can convince a woman to marry him by Christmas (which is only four weeks away) and Jessie is the assigned target of his bet. As Aiden attempts to court Jessie by first hiring her to decorate his apartment, Jessie looks to her sister, roommate and interior design company partner, Vivian (Kimberly Sustad) as her closest confidant. To complicate matters, Jessie is doggedly pursued by her most recent ex-fiancé, Mike (Sage Brocklebank), who still wants to marry her. When Aiden finds himself falling for Jessie too, will he call off the bet and truly pursue her?

Holiday High School Reunion

Twenty-eight-year-old Georgia is convinced the man of her dreams is the one "that got away" back in high school. Though she's tried dating other men, they just never seem to compare to her high school flame. When Georgia learns of her high school reunion a week before Christmas, she's ecstatic to finally have her chance to win Craig back. But as she gets to relive high school for a night, she begins to realize it might not be Craig at all who got away, but Ben, an old friend with whom she'd fallen out of touch.

Our Two Cents:
This was not good. Georgia was just kind of obnoxious and clueless. NO ONE seems to have grown up at all in the 10 years since high school. They are all single. They are all silly and immature—even Georgia, which is what makes it hardest to like her.

The script just didn’t make a lot of sense. She is supposed to be hung up on her old flame, and while there are plenty (too many) scenes where stares dreamily across the room at him while he doofs around and looks confused, she doesn’t actually do much talking to him. He doesn't even remember her at first. Meanwhile, she repeatedly sneaks away to goof off with her old best friend. In fact, it sounds like that's how it was in high school too—stare dreamily at Craig, hang out with Ben. She just doesn't try very hard to get him back. Mostly she just spends the evening embarrassing herself. Like we said, the script just doesn't make any sense.

But you never know. It may end up being one of your guilty pleasures, so maybe try it out! We have plenty that we watch that we fully realize are awful.
