Gift of the Magi

Jim and Della Young are a young newly married couple. They have little, in fact, they can barely afford moving into to their new apartment, especially when their second-hand car breaks down. Jim has an antique car that's he's been restoring for years. Della works as customer service phone representative, but her true passion is photography. Because of their financial difficulties, they agree not to buy Christmas presents that year. As the holiday approaches, each decides to secretly earn extra cash by sacrificing their own hobbies to buy what the other needs.

Our Two Cents:
This story is pretty simple. There are a few other plot points, but mostly it's just a sweet story of sacrifice and trust. Be sure to add it to your holiday view list.

Christmas Cupid

Sloane is a beautiful, stylish woman on the fast track to success in her public relations firm when a starlet client, Caitlin, dies. Caitlin immediately becomes Sloane's own personal "Jacob Marley" (the Christmas Carol ghost) ushering in the spirits of Christmas past, present, and future--all in the guises of Sloane's former boyfriends. Sloane finds out first hand that her unethical ways and workaholic habits need to change and that reuniting with one of the past lovers whom she jilted may be the answer for a happy-ever-after life.
Our Two Cents:
Frankly, we didn't like this one. Marisa, being a One Tree Hill fan, really wanted to like it for Chad Michael Murray's sake. But we didn't. Honestly, it's been a while since we watched it so I don't remember much about it besides that we didn't like it and there was zero chemistry between the main leads. Christmas Carol remakes tends to be not so good. Sad to say, ABC family movies tend to be not so good. This one had a double whammy against it.

Farewell Mr. Kringle

Annabelle (Christine Taylor), a widowed journalist, begrudgingly accepts an assignment on Kris Kringle, a Santa Claus impersonator who lives in a small, Christmas-themed town. To her surprise, Anna is enchanted by Kris and the townspeople who love him. As her involvement with the town grows, Anna is able to put the past behind her and open herself up to love again.

Our Two Cents:
This one is really sweet. Sometimes the Santa in these movies is a bit silly and dotty, but as you learn more about Kris, his story makes perfect sense and you really admire him, and it's very sweet how the town honors him. Plus it has quite a cute love story to boot!
