Mrs. Miracle

Losing a spouse is always hard, and for Seth Webster (James Van Der Beek), playing single dad to two rambunctious six-year-olds doesn’t make it any easier. With the holidays approaching, finding a housekeeper has proven to be near-impossible, until Mrs. Emily Merkle (Doris Roberts) shows up at the Websters’ door, ready to turn their lives around. No sooner has “Mrs. Miracle,” as Seth’s boys call her, straightened up the house, than Seth meets Reba Maxwell (Erin Karpluk), best friend to the Webster kids’ first-grade teacher.

After just one date, Seth and Reba find they have a lot in common. Since the death of his music-loving wife, Seth has been unable to play a single chord on the piano, and, in the name of her career, Reba, once an avid actress, has avoided the theater. With a Christmas pageant to prepare for and a fresh romance on the horizon, Mrs. Miracle definitely has her work cut out for her and proves to be more than just a normal nanny.

Our Two Cents:
This one is a bit cheesy, as you would expect from a Hallmark Holiday movie, but we can't help but liking it. Maybe it has something to do with James Van Der Beek's deep brown eyes... and we are okay with that.

Nativity!

This Christmas, primary school teacher Paul Maddens (Martin Freeman) is charged with producing the school's nativity play. Competing against the posh rival school for the honor of best reviewed show in town, the stakes are raised when Paul idly boasts that his ex-girlfriend Jennifer, a Hollywood Producer, is coming to see his show with a view to turning it into a film. The only trouble is - they haven't spoken in years. With eccentric assistant Mr Poppy fueling his 'little white lie', Maddens suddenly finds himself a local celebrity and at the center of quarreling parents and over-excited children desperate in their bid for fame and fortune. Maddens' only hope is to get back in touch with Jennifer and lure Hollywood to town so that everybody's Christmas wishes come true.

Our Two Cents:
Oh. My. We... It... was... AWESOME!!! Holy hannah, we are going to have to knock one of our current top 10's off the list, because words cannot even express the splendor of this magical movie.

The kids are awesome, the music, the costumes. There's even a little tearjerker scene. If you don't already love Martin Freeman (and to know him is to LOVE him) then you will after watching this, and you MUST watch this.
